Why wimpy SLING damage and range?

And the damage dealing classes are built to deal damage, rarely will a magic user have a 16 STR or DEX to deal extra damage. And if the magic user is fighting with weapons, the magic user and probably party is screwed, as he should be casting spells and cantrips (which deal better damage than a 1d6 anyway).</p></blockquote><p></p>
