Thank you for taking the time to share you thoughts. I appreciate the feedback. :) As for the Student of Chaos ability, being able to reroll an attack or random effect is very powerful. I was actually worried people would think it was overpowered. Not only is it basically the elf racial power, it also lets wild mages occasionally have some control over their extremely unpredictable powers. The ability to reroll an attack is worth as much or more as an extra action in some situations. Remember, you can choose to reroll after failing to hit on the first roll. If that daily you just cast missed, you can try again. That second chance might hit the creature, and you don't have to expend another spell, as you would if you instead took an extra action to cast another spell. I wanted to keep the table from the old rod of wonder, though. ;) But I see your point, 4e has tried to simplify things, but I sometimes miss a bit of the complexity from the old days. It all really depends on the preferences of the gaming group. Some might not want to include a spell with this level of complexity, others will welcome it. You can always cut out several of the options if you want to simplify it. ;) Since you include yourself among the possible new targets, if there are no other creatures within 5 squares, the attack is redirected to you. The attacker still has to reroll the attack, so it does at least give you a second chance. That would probably fit better in the 4e system, but there's already tons of powers that do x damage + status effect. I wanted the wild mage to be a bit more exotic and unique. That said, I'll toy around with your idea and see if I can come up with anything interesting. ;)
