I have to agree with several of the above. Wild Mages are one of my favorite 2nd ed classes. I've played them several times, and they always get kicked out of the party the moment their magic goes sideways, but that is half the fun :D I think the largest problem we run into with this build is that it is going to break the "Flow" that WotC is trying to accomplish in combat. Every time a Wild Mage does something (and this is true of my beloved 2nd ed Wild Mage) you have to look things up in tables. I don't mind tables, but it does get away from what WotC is trying to accomplish with 4E. As a couple of suggestions: Wild Magic - Keep the roll to determine (At-Will, Encounter, etc.), but after that let the mage pick an ability from his known abilities. Another possibility is that he rolls a d20 - 10 and that is the level of daily spell he is allowed to cast (Also from his daily spell list) Student of Chaos - How about Encounter or Daily, if a spell misses you can re-roll the attack but you are dazed (save ends). Chaotic Mind - Beautiful. It couldn't work any better. Reckless Dweomer - *sob* I wish we could...I really do. I just don't see this one working. Shield of Chaos - Equally beautiful. Wild Strike - Again, a chart. How about if they fail the saving throw they attack themselves instead. *eg* Again. I love the build. I really want to see this in my game. I can see my Wild Mage Villain already. ha...haha...WAHAHAHAHA!
