Clean up begins this morning after thunderstorms tore across Iowa last night. It was a wild night for weather across the state. Lightning and wind brought down many trees all over Ankeny.
In the city of Manson last night, in Calhoun County, high winds hit about 50 miles an hour and heavy rain fell for about 20 minutes before moving on. Manson got more than ten inches of rain last weekend. More than half the homes in the city of 1800 had water damage in their basements and many of those same homes have to replace roofs after a violent hail storm last month.
Manson and Calhoun county officials are still waiting to find out if they will be declared a disaster area and be eligible for federal emergency aid.
Places like Baxter in Jasper County, and Lowell in Marshal County also saw a lot of storm damage.
