Will d20 kill Dragonlance ?

Since d20 is only a cold rules system, and DL focuses on the story and not strict rules, I wonder how these two will combine together?
Will DL become another plain high-fantasy world or will it keep its magic & mystery in d20 ?
In other terms, will the rulessytem mangle that fabulous world or will DL be less strict on rules?

As a direct example: magic on Krynn is not exactly less or more powerful than other d&d settings, it's more "rare". Since CRs take into account a corresponding amount of wealth (& magic items), will PCs become equally spoiled, thus making magic & magic items more common than they should be?

Let's not forget what made DL so great; that's its story, not its rules!

Who could forget kenders and gully dwarves and gnomish inventors?

Yes, of course, these too. And magic being tied to three moons and requiring the Test, and nowhere do dwarves get more attention than on Krynn, and Knights and their orders being prominent like it should be in a Dark Ages kinda setting (instead of Half-dragon/half-drow monk/psions:eek: )... :)

When Dragonlance went from AD&D to SAGA card-based system, I totally left DL behind, just as much as the gamers of the first edition AD&D left when second edition was introduced. I wanted nothing to do with it.

3e brought back a lot of the first edition gamers back, and soon it will bring me back to Dragonlance when it returns to its original root, as a dice-based system.

The rules are merely tools and should not serve as a crutch nor should it play a hand-holding role for the gamemaster, including a newbie. It is the "flavor" or "fluff" content that will serve to bring the setting to the players' imagination, as well as give the gamemaster a sense of the world they're playing in.

Ultimately, it is up to him or her to emphasize the thematic story element of the DL world, not the game itself.

Ditto. I ran post War of the Lance game for the two years before SAGA and 5th age came out (thus shutting down almost all AD&D support for the setting) and completely destroyed any interest I had in running it. Homebrews ever since.

I think I can argue that Dragonlance D20 will be good for the setting just as easily as I can argue that Dragonlance really died at the end of the Legends trilogy. I'm hoping that the book offers the option to play in a number of different eras (much like they did with D20 Star Wars) rather than force us into the 5th age.

Substitute "Ravenloft" for "Dragonlance". cf. the success of d20 Ravenloft. Draw appropriate conclusion.

. . .

didn't DL spring from 1st ed AD&D, a much more broken and "cold-rules" system than 3rd ed ever was, in my opinion?
