Once 4th Edition comes out, how different will my life be? Will I feel and think differently? I ask because I think I've found the person I want to spend my life with now, but I am concerned that my old emotions and experiences won't port over correctly to the new edition. Will our love be compatible with the streamlining of character choices and pared down stat blocks, or will efforts at converting to the new system be fruitless? With the more limited array of magic items and buffs, will my personal qualities still mesh with hers so perfectly? Will the Digital Initiative require me to pay a monthly fee to enjoy the easy companionship and continued peace of mind my relationship has brought me since the advent of 3.5? In a world with at least one core race removed and even certain base classes no longer supported, does a love like ours make sense anymore? Will living with her continue to make me more thankful every day to have found a companion whose happiness is so contagious, or will Star Wars Saga style static defenses eliminate the variety that gives our relationship its spark? I need to know, because if not, I think I need to start planning to move out before the 4E PHB comes out in May and our former love begins to seem cloying and stale. That, or maybe-- just maybe-- I'll retire my dark elven archmage for good and try to make things work by getting into a non-d20 rpg, like one of those narrative games with the Jenga blocks. In any case, if a representative of WotC could contact me regarding these changes ASAP, I would appreciate it. Whatever the answer, I have some big decisions to make.
