Will my DM be mad?

A month ago I joined a gaming group. Now my DM has been preparing this whole time and the first session is on July 25th. He is picking out minis that match our chracters, building plotlines, etc. But then I read about Bahamut in CD. I wanted to switch deities from Obad-Hai to Bahamut. I am a cleric so this is a more important decision. I don't want to make him mad by ruining any of his hardwork. So what should I do?

ask him. if he already has somthing that needs you to stay with your current god them it'll be better if you do. swiching deities may not effect your character much but it might affect your dm's plans.

I know it won't affect my character that much. Thanks for the advice.:)

As DM, my philosphy is anything can change up to the moment the first session starts. I'd mention it to him as soon as possible in a "would it be OK?" kind of way. Heck, you don't know - this may fit in even better with his plans. It might be bit of a hassle for him, but most of the time things can be modified to fit with changing character ideas.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. Indeed, if a player came to me and said theywanted to change character, I would accept that. Regardless of how much work I'd done tying the existing character into my campaign. The simple fact of the matter is that no player should be required to play a character he doesn't want to play - it's the players' game too, and about the only thing they can control about it is their character.

Of course, I might not be too happy about it. But I would accept it.

The suggestions of others in the thread are right, though: speak to your DM as soon as possible, and check it's okay. I'm sure he won't have a problem with it.
