Artists play on this all the time, or try too <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile    :)"  data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" /> to get people to associate something through a commonly held belief. Back in the dark-early middle ages there was something of a rennisance in art where people where often commissioned by a church body to do a painting.The church just wanted something to amaze/scare the peasents with, back then literacy was at an all time low so pictures work well to convey a message because no one can read. This led to a lot of images, illuminated manuscripts, icons and stained glass windows depicted stories in their own right.ie: something like St George slaying a dragon, most people would be familiar with that piece of iconography.So, Bob the painter who's only little more than a peasent with a paintbrush asks his commisioning agent, usually a bishop "wot you want me to paint to depict the devil boss? I aint never seen a devil"And the bishop will dig around and come up with maybe some late greek or roman artwork (remember, theres a few hundred years where most of europe had little use for art or writing, or history or much of anything after the fall of the roman empire) so he gives Bob our painter a nice picture of Pan or any number of pictures of things that arent christian and probably will be a good idea to keep the masses away from worshipping other religions."Right you are boss," and off he goes and we get something that pays Bob's wages for awile.Sort of how just about any picture of Jesus, Mary, Joseph or the Disciples will appear to be a bunch of good old Anglo-Saxon boys and girls.You can imagine what would happen to our painter Bob if he paints a whole bunch of 'Saracen' looking types from the middle east cant you.Yep, he'd get his arse kicked! <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" />But still, that image lingers on and we have nice white Jesus bringing home the goodness to millions and most people tend to try to avoid mentioning he was from the middle east for some reason or another and was more than likely 'well tanned' at the very least.
