I, too, own a copy of Mysterious Doctor Satan. At one point I was buying a lot of old movie serials, and that one was one of the better ones. Obviously there's a lot of cheesy stuff in them, but they're fun.

Very interesting.

I was highly amused by the reference to Mysterious Dr Satan, as I actually own a copy of this on VHS, and to an adult in 2002, the robots are pretty laughable. If anyone is interested, here's a picture or two of them...

Heh. That whole web article is actually a really entertaining read. I went for the picture, but ended up reading the whole thing. One of the local PBS stations used to show a Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon serial every Saturday, just before Dr. Who. Good, cheesy fun, indeed. There also used to be a show that was on PBS called Saturday Matinee or some such, that was basically an abbreviated version of just that, a matinee. It usually had the selected shorts, cartoon, serial and then movie.

Hey, I just finished the new Gibson novel, Pattern Recognition. It's not sci fi, more of a modern-day mystery but heavy on technology, particularly the Internet. It had some great stuff regarding a message board community that cultishly followed some new underground fad -- it reminded me a lot of EN World in some ways. :) A very invigorating read and highly recommended.

So you'd recommend it? I honestly haven't read anything by Gibson since Neuromancer and some short stories in a long time. I was sort of under the impression he'd turned into a one trick pony, which may be an unfair assessment, but I've never really had time to go back and figure out if that's true or not.
