For all the people thinking WOTC is going to steal their ideas ... with all due respect I think that's highly unlikely. Let's face it, most of what we DMs come up with is not particularly unique or special. There are only so many ideas out there that are going to fit the D&D niche, I'm sure most of them have been tossed around at one time or another throughout the years by the people employed to develop product. That's not to belittle or minimize the work that DMs around the world do. I like to think my own gaming sessions are unique and special. Now and then they I like to think they actually are. For my group. But coming up with new and unique ideas that are going to resonate with a significant portion of the broader public? Call me a skeptic but that is going to be incredibly rare. During my years of D&D we've played some really cool stories. I've come up with hundreds of unique personalities and caricatures, some of which hit that magic spot of being truly memorable. Some of the monsters were really, truly awesome. But being a realist? I know that there's nothing new under the sun and just like that guy that makes everyone laughs at parties doesn't almost never makes it as a professional comedian, most of our ideas just aren't that special. Edit: also - what @an_idol_mind said.
