WIP Magic Items - Trick Arrows & Sorcerer Spell Recovery

Jacob Gandy

First Post
Hi Everyone,

Was hoping I could get some feedback on two WIP magic items I created. The first is intended for a wild mage sorcerer to mimic the wizard's arcane recovery. This could be used in theory as a homebrew class feature instead of a magic item if balance issues are addressed.

The second was created for a ranger PC who requested comics-style trick arrows. I created a quiver that generates a d20 worth of different arrow types. The player in question specifically requested that what arrow he receives be a surprise, so its designed to force the character to actually fire it off before the effect is known. A variation could generate fewer arrows per day, which would be visible in the quiver and could be fired at will.

Balance suggestions, language clarifications etc are appreciated.

I'll probably err in favor of 1/long rest, but I'm not sure how unbalanced the cube is in its current form since I usually only give 1-2 short rests per day. So, should be a 25% chance of no recovery, 50% chance of equaling the (guaranteed) arcane/natural recovery features, and 25% chance of getting 4 slots back.

As it stands now, theres nothing saying wizards/druids can't use it in addition to the built-in recovery options.

Also, what I meant with the 1/long rest is theres no restriction on how many times you can use it, but you can only recover slots once per long rest.
