I was thinking about allowing wizards to change out their familiar ability with this. Wizards Weapon, a wizard has a strong connection with a certain weapon. Similar to a familiar. Most wizards use a staff as their special weapon, alot of elf's chose to use longswords. If the weapon is broken or destroyed it is the same as losing a familiar. 1-2 When his weapon is within 5' wizard gains Alertness as a bonus feat. Improved Hardness the weapon gains 5 points of hardness and has either it's normal hitpoints or half the wizards hit points wichever is greater. Know location, the wizard knows the distance and direction to his weapon out to 1 mile. Eschew Materials, the wizard gains this feat when the weapon is in hand basicly the weapon becomes an arcane focus in place of any spell component with a cost of less then 1 gp. 3-4 Deliver Touch spells, the weapon (not it's ammo) can be used to deliver touch spells just like the wizard could with his hands. 5-6 Come to Master, the with regard to his weapon the wizard has the quickdraw feat, and it flies to his hand similar to the returning special ability if wizard choses(free action) when it is within 30'. 7-8 Enchated Weapon, the weapon is considered magical for overcoming damage reduction, this does not give it any bonus to hit or damage. The wizard can use craft magic arms and armor even if he does not have the feat to enchant his weapon. 9-10 ----- 11-12 Greater Enchant weapon, the wizard can use the craft rod feat on his weapon even if he does not have the feat to give it metamagic rod abilities only. The cost of doing so stays the same as if it was a singular rod, the fact that it is a weapon or could have multiple rod powers does not adjust the gold or xp cost of enchanting it. 13-14 Retributive Strike, the weapon does double the damage dealt to it on whoever tries to sunder it. With this ability and the improved hardness few are foolish enough to try and sunder a wizards weapon. 15-20 ------- I wanted an alternate to the classic familiar, I do not like the item familiar rules from UA, and I like the feel and look of wizards staffs in literature, was going to limit it to staffs but then the thought of bladesinger types and changed it to all weapons. Is this balanced is it something a wizard you play would want?
