WLD as a city

I have a secret hope that with the apparent success of Worlds Largest Dungeon that someone will put the same effort into creating a grand city. If people are willing to buy a $100 product for a dungeon, I think they would be willing to do the same thing for a completely fleshed out city. I know I would.

Hey. While an epic dungeon crawl isn't my campaign cuppa tea either, don't knock WLD. It's a massive effort, very well done, and most of the encounters alone are so well thought out and detailed they can be plucked out and used as stand alones or in groups.

Even if it's a product you would not likely use as a massive dungeon or as 16 large dungeons. it's still *very much* worth your time to look at it.

They did a risky thing with WLD in terms of commercial viability and massive investment of time and effort - all while daring to do something that has never been done. And they pulled it off.

It's a great product. I'd be very interested in another "World's Largest..." product. They earned serious respect with WLD with me.

Absolutely. I was hoping with its release that it would give WotC a kick in the pants to try to out-do it (or at least produce something similar for, say, Undermountain), but all seems quiet on that front - especially since Undermountain now seems to be a web-feature.

Cheer up -- WotC has a habit of bundling & selling web enhancements. :)

World's Largest City would be great - I'd be all over that product like stink on a monkey's back. However, I'm also looking forward to the revised Bluffside. I absolutely love The Bluffs, and have incorporated it into my Arcana Evolved Campaign as the primary city of interest, Ravadan.

Hmm... It's a shame that my group isn't very Dungeon oriented at the moment, it would be interesting to play through it with my current group...

But what would people want of "The world's Largest City"? Should it be a port city? How modular should it be (as in where you could chuck it in your campaign)? How big should it be (in terms of population)? How should the devision of races be in the city? Should the City be written with different settings in mind? How should it be written (organizational)? Is there a book that does a good job at describing a city, but should be done bigger (i thought Sharn was pretty good, but with an aditional 700 pages of details it would be near perfect).

I'd like a good fantasy sprawl. That would be cool. That takes up a whole penninsula or something. That has its own entire districts that could be small towns or cities in and of themselves. Maybe it used to be 2 or 3 city-states that just melded together into one huge city or something. Hmm....i like that! :D
