WoC Magic World?

Anyone know if Magic will look towards a D&D world based around there MtG card game..
Not a big MtG player, but they do seem to have a lot of history adn some lovely ideas behind the game, adn plenty of artwork to choose from...
Or maybe there would be too much in house competition with their other books to head down this line????
Not sure I'd even buy it truth be told, was just curious....

My friends and I always suspected MtG was a "gateway game" to get you into more real roleplaying. You know, kinda like how they claim doing pot leads to doing cocaine.

I'm really surprised WotC hasn't done a MtG series for D&D yet. Heck, they could do at least 2 or 3 monster manuals without even touching the spells, locations, magic items, and characters. I'm a recovering MtG addict, but I'd sure lay out the cash for good D&D conversions.

I think that it would be a terrific idea, especially after reading several of WotC's Magic novels. I've wanted to run a campaign based there for some time now.

M:TG is also a good example of a setting where Epic Level characters are not unreasonable (in fact, many of the characters in the novels would attain these levels of power, such as Urza and Serra), and making an RPG based more around the machinations of powerful planeswalkers than common adventurers could be quite interesting (I'm thinking Birthright meets Planescape meets Master of Magic... hmm...)

You know, it could be that they've been waiting for the Epic Level rules before doing a MtG d20 game. I'm not sure how you could do MtG as a campaign setting correctly in d20 without those rules.

The flavor of the spells in MtG would also require a variant magic system, IMO. D&D's core magic system just wouldn't capture the flavor of the card game, which is important.

Monte's Secret Project

What the heck, everybody else has speculated as to what Monte's super-secret book is going to be. Now, it's my turn.

I think it's the Deck of Many Things. The "Deck" is a link to MtG decks. I think MtG has been around since about '93. Plenty of icky things in MtG. I doubt Jack Chick likes it. Maybe the Gnomish Kama Sutra was a card they left out of that comedy expansion set a year or two ago?

So there you go. Monte's secret project and MtG as a part of 3E. All in one big guess. :D

Ryan Dancey commented on this a while ago. Apparently, they were planning on making a Dominaria setting for D&D, but then they figured that when you have the #1 RPG (D&D), the #1 RPG setting (FR) and the #1 CCG (Magic), it makes little sense to try to combine the CCG with the RPG and do something that might only be the #5 RPG setting - or, for that matter, go the other way and make Magic expansions based on D&D.
