WOIN and Nock's Elements of Magic

Lately I've been slowly digging into WOIN, getting pretty excited as the final releases trickle out. Somewhere along the line I saw a comment that OLD's tantalizing modular-magic system will be based on something called "Elements of Magic" by Ryan Nock (an esteemed/notorious poster on ENWorld, IIRC). I just threw some money down the DriveThruRPG-hole to have a look at that old publication, but I'm wondering if anyone on the inside of EN Publishing has or will comment on the similarities and differences between these two systems. I'm intrigued by the premise of modular magic, but I haven't yet delved deep enough to understand it all yet. Thanks for any info you want to provide. :)

It's based on EoM. But there are differences. It's actually available to read for free on the WOIN Rules Reference Document on the official website.

It's a little more freeform than EoM. You don't have to learn specific spell lists; you learn skills and elements and then combine as you wish.

Ryan, of course, is currently directing the ZEITGEIST adventure path.

Thanks for the info, Morrus!

I also bought Elements of Magic II: Lyceian Arcana. Looks interesting, but based on your comment, I'm guessing that's just more EoM and not really an insight into WOIN, am I correct?

That's an old book for D&D 3.5. Nothing to do with WOIN. But I took inspiration from both books when designing the WOIN Magic system.
