Wolfs and Trip

sierzadon

First Post
I'm playing a druid and my trusty companion is a wolf. Ofcourse I want him to use trip, and I have a few questions:

From SRD:
Trip (Ex): A wolf that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+1 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the wolf.

Q1: Is the +1 check modifier for the wolfs 13 str, or should I add it to the str bonus? (total trip modifier then would be 2)

Q2: When my animal companion levels with me, it will gain str. So it's trip attack will become more effective? (as per Q1 above, trip bonus +2 or +3 when druid is level 3)

Thanks!

The +1 is for the wolf's strength. When they say "+x modifier", they generally mean in total, unless they say it's a bonus to the check.

Yes, its trip will get better as you get better (thank goodness).
