Wonder Woman being able to fly?

Really? That must have been very early. My first superman comic is from the sixtees and he can already fly in that one.

Well, note that "early" is relative. Superman got his start in 1938. So, by the late 60s, he'd already been around for THIRTY YEARS.

Interestingly, his flight arose from animation - in the Superman cartoons of the 1940s, the animators had issues animating all that leaping around, and they asked DC if they could make him fly instead.

Oh, okay, fun fact that! And there were Superman cartoons in the 1940s? Oh, my!

Wonder Woman has been able to fly for some time. She is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe, with strength, durability, and speed even beyond any female Kryptonians. She's not quite as strong as Superman, but its close.

Captain Marvel is as strong as Superman, however. He was basically created as a copy of Superman decades ago, and for a time his comic actually outsold Superman because kids really loved the idea of being able to say a magic word and turn into a superhuman adult. It was the ultimate wish fulfillment fantasy for young superhero fans.

DC sued Fawcett over the character's similarities to Superman like 50 years ago and won. This resulted in Fawcett going bankrupt and DC taking over the company's assets and the copyright to the Captain Marvel family of characters which included Black Adam, Mary Marvel and so on. But during the transition and bankruptcy, I believe, the Captain Marvel trademark lapsed and was snatched up by Marvel comics for their own character by that name.

So while Captain Marvel and the Marvel family characters like Black Adam ended up in the DCU, DC couldn't actually put the name Marvel on the cover of any of their comic books. This is why when DC rebooted for the new 52 continuity, they formally changed the name of Captain Marvel to Shazam. That's what most people ignorantly called him anyway even though Shazam was technically the name of the wizard and the magic word that granted Captain Marvel his power.

Ah, alright. Thanks for the background info :)
