Word of Recall

One question on Word of Recall:

Since the range of the spell is unlimited, am I right in my understanding that creatures to be transported in addition to the caster can be virtually anywhere (on the same plane) as long as they are willing to be effected, i.e. 20 miles away and being constricted by a gargantuan black pudding?

According to a strict reading of the spell, there's no limitation on who you can take with you, that's correct (other than the weight limit and that they have to be willing). Personally, I think it's an oversight. If the spell was really meant to be a "teleport other", there would be no reason to specify that the caster is also teleported along with the rest. I would limit it to touched creatures/objects, like with the teleport spell.

Thanks, hong, but my example was for a creature the spellcaster planned to transport along with himself with the Word of Recall, not the spellcaster himself.

I agree with your reply except I might decide to be a little more liberal since the spell is more limiting than Teleport (destination fixed at preparation) and of higher level (sor/wiz 5 versus clr 6 or drd 8). I am considering allowing willing creatures within 5 feet for every 3 levels of the spellcaster to be transported or, perhaps, a simple fixed range of 10 or 15 feet.
