So does this mildly upgraded worg reach CR3? Or is it still a snug CR2? it is still below the potency of a dire wolf. The goal i had was to make the worg a equal of a heavy warhorse.
Divatrosian Worg
Large Magical Beast Hit Dice: 4d10+8 (30 hp) Initiative: +2 Speed: 50 ft. (10 squares) Armor Class: 14 (+2 Dex, +3 natural –1 size), touch 11, flat-footed 12 Base Attack/Grapple: +4/+12 Attack: Bite +7 melee (1d8+6) Full Attack: Bite +7 melee (1d8+6) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Trip Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision, orc friend, scent Saves: Fort +6, Ref +6, Will +3 Abilities: Str 18, Dex 15, Con 15, Int 6, Wis 14, Cha 10 Skills: Hide +4, Listen +6, Move Silently +6, Spot +6, Survival +2* Feats: Alertness, Track Environment: Temperate plains Organization: Solitary, pair, or pack (6–11) Challenge Rating: 2 Treasure: 1/10 coins; 50% goods; 50% items Alignment: Usually neutral evil Advancement: 5–6 HD (large) 7-9 HD[huge]
A typical Divatrosian worg has gray or black fur, grows to 9 feet long and stands 5 feet tall at the shoulder. It weighs 700 pounds. Heavier stock are not unknown and an almost cat-like breed exist underground that has non-retractable claws to climb with [replace move silently +6 with climb +8]
More intelligent than the dire wolves their blood was drawn from, Divatrosian worgs speak their own language. Some can also speak Common and Orc. Some believe that their allegiance with orcs is a curse upon their race, rather than a blessing for the orcs. Others assume the loyalty is version of the Orc-home syndrome abused mates, captives and slaves often develop.
COMBAT
Mated pairs or packs work together to bring down large game, while lone Divatrosian worgs usually chase down creatures smaller than themselves. Both often use hit-and-run tactics to exhaust their quarry. A pack usually circles a tougher opponent: Each Divatrosian worg attacks in turn, biting and retreating, until the creature is exhausted, at which point the pack moves in for the kill. If they get impatient or heavily outnumber the opponent, Divatrosian worgs attempt to grapple and pin it. Those that have orc riders will often times have a better grasp of tactics than their riders do.
Trip (Ex): A Divatrosian worg that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+8 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the Divatrosian worg.
Soft paws: [Ex]: A worg does not have a natural claw/hoof attack. Should a worg rider perform a maneuver that would allow his mount such an attack, the attack is rolled at +2 to hit and does 1d4+2 damage
Orc friend [Ex]: A strange empathic connection exists between Divatrosian worgs and orcs. Divatrosian worgs willingly endure the miserable treatment of the orcs as their combat mounts far more than alignment and wisdom would indicate. They also can grant riders with orc blood a +2 racial bonus to ride checks. A Divatrosian worg can elect not to grant this bonus should the rider offend it in some grievous way.
Skills: A Divatrosian worg has a +1 racial bonus on Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks, and a +6 racial bonus on Hide checks.
*A Divatrosian worg has a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent.
Carrying Capacity: A light load for a Divatrosian worg is up to 300 pounds; a medium load, 301–600 pounds; and a heavy load, 601–900 pounds. A Divatrosian worg can drag 4,500 pounds. A Divatrosian worg can also grievously wound anyone foolish enough to try to use them as a pack animal.
Broken Nose, D. worg; Large Magical Beast Hit Dice: 6d10+18 (51 hp fights to -10) Initiative: +2 Speed: 50 ft. (10 squares) Armor Class: 22 (+4 Dex, +4 natural, +5 [+1 chain shirt barding] –1 size), touch 13, flat-footed 18 Base Attack/Grapple: +6/+14 Attack: Bite +11 melee (1d8+9) Full Attack: Bite +11 melee (1d8+9) Space/Reach: 10 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Trip Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision, orc friend Saves: Fort +8, Ref +9, Will +3 Abilities: Str 22, Dex 18 , Con 17, Int 8, Wis 12, Cha 10 Skills: Hide +6, Listen +6, Move Silently +6, Spot +6, Survival +1* Feats: Endurance, Diehard, improved natural armor Environment: Temperate plains Organization: Pack leader or mount for orc commander Challenge Rating: 3 or 4 Treasure: +1 chain shirt barding, three 200gp gems hidden in a stitched wound [dc 22 search or heal check to find]. Advancement: 2HD + Elite ability score array.
Thick scar tissue covers the exposed parts of this chain-clad warg’s body, leaving several bald patches where his raven black fur no longer grows.
A well bred worg that has suffered harsh treatment as the mount of a Orcish military commander, broken nose’s injury was dealt to him early in life by a previous rider, who later fell in combat when his saddle strap ‘broke’ from being gnawed on, leaving said orc behind during a tactical retreat. Life got even rougher afterwards, including the orc’s recent development of a training style that pushes its victims to their limits and teaches them to fight past death. Nearly mentally broken, he faithfully serves his rider, but may make one last attempt to flee the orcs should the opportunity arise. An orc churgeon a while back stitched a few gems into a wound being sewed in hopes of hiding the gems at that moment and later stealing the mount. The chieftain did not believe the churgeon’s claims of ignorance on the mater of the missing gems and killed the churgeon in anger.
Use: A mount for the leader of the orc army the PCs are slaughtering, a renagade mount turned leader for a pack of worgs or just a lone warg who an orc commanded wants back very badly.
Fang face, Huge Magical Beast Hit Dice: 7d10+35 ( 73hp) Initiative: +3 Speed: 50 ft. Special Attacks: Trip[+16] Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., low-light vision, orc friend, scent Saves: Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +2 Abilities: Str 27, Dex 16, Con 21, Int 5, Wis 14, Cha 8 Skills: Hide +4, Listen +4, Move Silently +7, Spot +4, Survival +2* Feats:Improved natural attack, Power attack, Track Environment: Temperate plains Organization: Challenge Rating: 4 Alignment: neutral evil [chaotic tendencies] Advancement:7HD[huge] non elite array
This gray furred monstrosity looks like a dentist’s nightmare, chaotic rows of serrated fangs jut from its oversized mouth that drips with syrup-like slobber. A foul carrion stench emanates from the bits of rotting flesh that cling between its fangs. A stubby tongue hangs loosely in its mouth.
Fang face bit his own tongue off in a battle a few years back by accident. Not long afterwards he was selected to be fed a diet of the strange sap from the fallen Elven life tree. Never the brightest worg, he ate the sticky goop readily, but was unable to clean his muzzle with his tongue. As the sap’s power’s took affect, not only did he grow rapidly but his jaws grew new sets of fangs, not all of them completely in his mouth. The change has dulled his senses, but made his bite far worse than before.
Use: A war beast with a howda of orc archers on its back, a member of a similarly mutated hunting pack or perhaps PCs hear the beast sloppily drinking at a river before it notices them.
