I'm working up a few areas of my campaign world that I haven't detailed yet, but which are close enough to the PC's activities that they might come into play, and I thought I'd fish about here for some extra ideas. My players are welcome in this thread if they happen upon it.
The Isle of Krone is a large island, in the England/Madagascar/Japan size range rather than smaller. So far, in game, I haven't specified anything about it. The name is carried over from a previous version of my campaign, where the "Princedom of Krone" was a land made up of elves, half-elves, and humans, working in relative peace and harmony.
I'm thinking on taking the name, and the presence of elves from that previous version. I also want to riff off of the word Krone/crone. Crone meaning "old woman", and specifically referring to hags.
Krone having both hags and elves (but what kind?) makes for a very fey-oriented kind of place, specifically Unseelie. My take on Seelie/Unseelie and Faerie/Shadow are very similar in tone to what has ended up being revealed about 4E (Damn those mind-readers!). I don't have Drow in my world, but I do have Shadow Elves, who are closely connected to the Unseelie Court.
So what kind of place should Krone be? I'm thinking very boggy, bayou-ish, with small cities that bring to mind a decaying renaissance New Orleans or Savannah feel; the interior of the island is controlled by coveys of hags, perhaps supported by witches and shadow elves. Still mostly human population, but potentially with other major non-humans added (goblins and Ogres are connected to the Unseelie in my world, but orcs and hobgoblins are not).
Thoughts?
