WoW is playable solo at most levels.. it just means more makework levleing in between. One thing though to consider is that the game encourages quick and easy parties.. but does not require long term play commitments from groups. Players generally want to join parties for short times so it still works well as a solo oriented games.
I think it is worth the subscription cost.. but if you're adverse to paying monthly check out Guild Wars.. its an MMORPG that has no subscription cost - though it is less solo friendly as the game requires players to form guilds to truely succeed.
City of Heroes and soon City of Villians will be playable as one subscription.. so that might catch your fancy.. I enjoyed CoH alot but the missions got a little more time dependent - needing longer and longer to complete so I could not sustain my play levels - also another game that encourages groups over solo.
I *heart* WoW, but since school started I've not had much time to play, anymore. *sniffle*
However - I'd say that WoW is playable solo. There are quests that would be difficult to do without a group, don't get me wrong. But groups are fast and easy. Additionally, I think that the Warlock class is essentially built to solo which is very nice.
WoW is a great game but I have to say that it doesn't captivate my attention like it once did. I attribute this to poor design at high levels. There is little to do at level 60 (max level) that doesn't require a group of 40 people. At least there is little *worth* doing. The rewards are much better at that level if you have a huge raiding party.
That said there is always PvP but that doesn't interest me much. It is fun but alliance (which I play primarily) has a long wait in a queue, so you might be online for 3 hours and get into the zone 2 or 3 times. That is too long to wait IMO.
I still have my sub but am considering cancelling.
By the way I am a 60 hunter which was a great class to play. I also have a 30's warlock which was also fun, a lowbie dwarf priest, and a troll shaman.
I would still suggest playing it, hopefully someday the high end content will be what I am looking for. If it is I will certainly come back to the game.
Yes, World of Warcraft is soloable and yes, it is defiantely worth the $15 a month to play. However, if you limit yourself to solo play, you are really missing out on a lot of the game's appeal; much of the fun of playing World of Warcraft comes from working as a team with other players to accomplish objectives that are too difficult to handle alone.
World of Warcraft is soloable no matter which class you play, but hunters are probably the class best suited for solo play.
Yeah, it is playable solo, but it is fun to form groups to explore 'instances', or dungeons. However, I'm finding it hard to find folks to go to certain instances, maybe because the rewards there aren't good.
There is a lot of grinding though; for example I had to kill over 80 trolls just to get 25 necklaces for a quest. It was pretty tedious.
