What: Worldwide Learn to Play D&D Game Day is an opportunity for retailers to share the world of Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying with customers who haven't played before and build a new customer base. This event is the culmination of Wizards' year-long celebration of the advertising and promotions. With the help of volunteers, hobby stores around the world will open up their gaming tables to new players on the same day, with adventures designed to introduce the basic concepts of roleplaying and share the fun of sitting around the gaming table. Game Day retailer kits will aid stores in providing a fully engaging event and will include promotional materials geared to inspire high foot traffic and purchase of entry-level D&D products. Fans and volunteers alike will even leave Game Day with free takeaway items, all of which will encourage those who've had their first taste of D&D to come back for more!

When: Saturday October 2, 2004

Who: 6.1 million potential D&D players, ages 12 & up targeted via print and online acquisition advertising.

Where: Participating Wizards of the Coast Premier Stores worldwide

Marketing Support:

* In-store marketing materials in kit

* Advertising and Public Relations Game Day awareness campaign beginning Summer 2004
- Print
- Online
- Consumer convention promotions

Key Selling Points:

Each kit is equipped to run three games and handle a total of 12 players.

The kit is designed to give retailers materials to encourage participation and sales.

Free give-aways in the kit encourage return visits, with players walking away with promotional miniatures and d20 dice embellished with the 30th Anniversary logo. Plus, volunteers will be encouraged to donate their time to the cause with the added value of 30th Anniversary t-shirt and promotional miniature take-aways. All items are designed to heighten interest without affecting sales of the product within participating stores.

If a store needs more than one kit to accommodate all of their players, additional kits can be ordered (limit 3 kits per store).

Cheers!

Heh, anybody else suspect a very large percentage of the people "learning to play D&D" on that day are going to be existing D&D fans wanting a free promotional mini and d20? ;)

They'll be able to get those things (plus a T-shirt) by volunteering to help on the day. :) Hopefully, we'll have a Wizards Premier store in Ballarat by that time - if so, I'll definitely be volunteering to help.

(Actually, I'm likely to be organising the event if my FLGS becomes a Wizards Premier store...)

Cheers!

Hmmm, considering the only WotC store I had ever seen closed last year and I had heard the entire chain was closing, I am wondering where these special events are to be held...

Sounds amusing.

OTOH, I agree that most of the folk who would show up to something like this would be people who already know about/play D&D

Oh well. Good luck to 'em. They'll need it...

Holy Smokes sign me up Batman! I run a game at my FLGS anyway, drawing in 2 whole new players this week alone. 1 is new to the game, I mean totaly new (hehe) and the other played when 2ed was around.

MerricB,

How does a store qualify for this event by becoming a Wizards Premier store? I think a lot of people might want to help stores in there area with this promotion.

Hmm, it looks like WotC is interested in promoting the game heavily on the anniversary? I wonder if it will lead to more promotional efforts?
