Most of the changes from the novels seem more like one of 1) The authors didn't read Winter's Heart or 2) Concessions to make the game more playable If you haven't read WH, allowing multiple people to bond the same person would seem silly; I certainly didn't think RJ was going to allow that. Since Rand and Alanna's bond works oddly (and this is evident within the same chapter Alanna bonded him), it's a lot simpler to disallow bonding channelers than to come up with special rules for a very unusual case, especially since RJ might not want to give away details that he hasn't written in the novels yet. Allowing self-healing is a straight-out concession to playability; if we didn't have two channelers in this game, I'd go by the rulebook on this one. And I've never seen fatigue mechanics that work well; so the all-or-nothing (except for overchanneling)approach doesn't bother me. Aiel Bucklers being 'just decorations' is kind of odd, but it's also odd that armor isn't worth much for Gareth Byrne (who's obviously a high-level armsman/commander, and wears armor all the time). It's a consequence of giving out class-based Defense bonuses; Armsmen are the only class that can really justify having Armor Compatibility. I don't like the Wise One as written (a class approriate for two people in the novels), but I think they did it that way so they could write up one PrC instead of two (if I allowed Aiel characters, I'd write my own PrCs, or use someone else's fan-created PrCs). And if you're not someone who obsesses over the novels (like, say, me), Amys is the most prominent Wise One, and she is a channeling dreamwalker, so you might not remember that Melanie is the only other one.
