WoT: Prophecies of Dragon: what's in it?

From reading the Amazon.com review, it sounds like it's just an adventure (with flaws), with three new weaves, one new magic item, and so on.

So, what are the new weaves and magic item(s)? Are they worth the $21 (on amazon.com; could probably get it for less on ebay, but takes forever...), for someone who's interested in integrating the system (but not necessarily the setting) into their campaign creation?

Nope! DOn't put money on it. The new rule/wave are not so great (i don't remember them exactly). And for the adventure.. this is a mini-campaign following the heroes of the book. The PC will see the battle at flame, etc... But the SR of the accounter are terrible (you will wipe out your group with only one hand free) and the story not soo great. Some chapter of the campaign are good but other ...eurk. And Jordan tell in a forum than the even in this book didn't happen at all... just too bad.

Take a look at the review I did when it came out over in the reviews section.

The book is of some value to people who like Wheel of Time but is of much less use to those who just want to run a game. It can boon doggle the inexperienced DM. I like the book and think it captures the "spirit" of WoT but it is fairly obvious that neither good editing nor more than superficial knowledge of the setting was used in the production of PotD.

If you replace "run a game" in this scentence with "read a book" you actually have a decent review of the last few books in the series! :) :(

I wouldn't go quite that far with the last few books. The last one, I'll admit, was a bit disappointing. I hope it improves in the next...what, 3, 4? Who wants to place bets on how long that series is going to actually be?

Does this include his new prequel trilogy. No joke this is true :D

I can see it now, his publishers are going "Now you did say 3 this time" and RJ going "Yep just like last time" :D

In a book reading I went to RJ said that he was going to be done at 12, and at the MOST he will finish on the thirteenth book in the series. Thats right, by 2009 we'll know how the series will finally end. He also said that he could have written the last chapter of the last book the day he started the series back in the late eighties. Just keep an eye on the prize: 2009.

Where'd you get that tidbit of info? That's news to me.

It's old news. Go look it up on www.wotmania.com
It's supposed to be a story explaining how and why Moiraine and Lan went to the Two Rivers, a story about Tam on dragonmountain (which might actually be cool if RJ would be so nice as to give us a big battle) and a third I can't remember.

I really can't believe this guy: writing prequels before the main work is finished.

As always with RJ, its a commercially good idea. He will trap many into thinking that to understand the finale of the main series they will need to read the prequels.

I have also read in numerous interviews and books that he has set the series at 13, 15 or 18. I don't think he knows, epecially considering it was orignally meant to be a trilogy.
