I suspect it's more of "this class isn't scheduled for release in the near future yet so here's our temporary solution that's available for free".

Having said that, the suggestions are great.

I imagine most all of the missed concepts are "in the works" - from necromancy to summoning to unarmed combat. We already know from Dave Noonan's comments that "the Bard is done" and "the Druid has been drafted."

So expect to see most all the missing 3e concepts -- sooner or later.
