[WotC] The Ten Thousand (no, not Xenophon)

First Post
WotC has received more than 10,000 proposals in their open call for settings!?! Wow. I guess I lost in the thread about guessing how many there would be. That's pretty incredible. Raises the question, however. What should we call this? A "contest", an "open call" or a "lottery".

I vote for "lottery" as in "crap shoot".

On the other hand, I think it guarantees that the top 10 are going to be pretty great settings. But probably the top 100 are going to be indistinguishably great. (Is indigdfjhykjn a word?)

Good luck--again--to everyone who sent a proposal.

I think it is still a contest, but I think the main first cross road will be that opening sentence- the one that describes you campeign.

With so many, I would imagine many being discarded just on the interest generated by that opening line.

I second the good luck to everyone- I wish I had more time then an hour before the post office closed to work on mine. heh.

Well, with the extended deadline they'll have time to review each page. They're putting in more time on this than I had originally ever expected. Frankly, I'm astounded.

Yeah, but how much more time is that?

I doubt these people are giving up their pre-contest duties to concentrate on these submissions.

Don't get me wrong, I have faith WOTC is going to do their best to select the best- there is a lot of money on the line. I just suspect many will be eliminated by that opening line.

I would say with the large amount of time they have extended the deadline by, that this is more an open call than ever.

Indeed, I suspect that people who only focussed on the core ethos and what's different sections (*cough* Ryan Dancey *cough*) may find themselves in for a surprise in the 'tie breaker'.

Your words better be golden or better, they count now.

I suspect with that many submissions they will cut it down to a manageable four or five hundred just on the basis of the "core ethos" and "what is different" sections.

Just my guess.
