No surprises here, this is just spin, and obvious, disingenuous spin at that. I particularly like the attempt to describe independent publishers like Paizo, Kobold Press, EN World etc, as "major corporations" so as to make them sound a) the equivalent of wotc/hasbro, and, b) just corporate freeriders, as opposed to small companies that have managed to carve out a solid space in a difficult industry. I realise most won't be of the same opinion, but for myself I won't be spending any money on any wotc product while they still own D&D, and that includes seeing the movie, or watching the tv series, or purchasing any product from anyone that pays a royalty to them. Yes, this will seem extreme to many, but ... As D&D is the main entry point into this hobby, it needs a trustworthy steward. Unfortunately, a publicly listed company just can't be that. Remember folks, the primary objective of any publicly listed company is to maximise return to shareholders - that is the law, so there is no point screaming at the wind when they try to do that. What this means though is that they will continue to try to turn the OGL more in their favour, bit by bit. Every major corporation does this - they are in fact legally obliged to do so. And remember, this isn't the first time wotc have attempted to do so (remember 4e's license anyone?). However, a company also needs to understand its product and consumer base, and it seems clear that as D&D has grown in recent years and new management has come in from outside the industry, all they see is the dollars and numbers, with little to no understanding of the industry or the players. I can leave D&D behind until it's been sold off (a distant dream for sure). There are soooo many great RPGs out there to try, and now is the perfect time to do so 🤩. I had already been going to try some new games after my current campaign ends shortly, this has only hastened that, and ensured I won't be doing anything that supports wotc in the future. The hardest part of all this is choosing what game to play next????? 😁🤩😬
