To most people, especially people who aren't TTRPG players, the difference between Pathfinder, D&D 5e, and a third party book made to be compatible with 5e is pretty much non-existent. To the layperson they are all D&D. So when WOTC decides to do something like the D&D movie  many people going to associate it with not only anything WOTC has done but also anything that is done by a third party operating in the same space. I could very much see some executive deciding that they need to crack down in case some 3pp publishes a naughty book that the public associates with them. That being said these are just suspicions and even if true are likely not the main driving force. But I would be surprised if they weren't considered.</blockquote>
