Pathfinder 1E Would a baseball bat be considered a greatclub or a club?

Did a little looking: Cricket bats are about the same length as a baseball bat, weigh between 2-3 lbs, and come in short handle and long handle versions. I'd use the same stats for D&D and similar games.

However, given their shape, I wouldn't be surprised to find that, if used as a weapon, hits with the edge weren't a bit nastier due to the concentration of the force...but it wouldn't be as durable- ash is @2x harder than willow. Hickory is nearly 4x harder.

Well, I don't think hardness really matters, I'd give them both the wood material qualities (Except when there are exceptions, like an aluminum or steel baseball bat). What would be the difference in hardness for a aluminum baseball bat?

Hardness usually doesn't matter in D&D style games- at least not within a single class of materials- unless they're special materials. So all woods are about the same...except Ironwood, for instance.

As for hardness of aluminum, it is actually pretty soft stuff.

But it is being measured on a different scale than wood. To fully answer your question would require a person with experience in materials engineering.

I see, I have wondered for months on how to incorporate aluminum as well as other modern materials for a modern setting I'm working on as a side project. Though I was limiting aluminum to bludgeoning weapons. Other materials I've been wondering about is hard plastic (the type used in plastic knuckles), Polypropylene which us used to replace wood in certain objects by cold steel but is supposedly much harder to break ("nearly unbreakable" according to them), and titanium which would only be used in small daggers for the most part.

fer my 2 cents, I would think that a baseball bat would be a simple weapon (d8) in 2 hands, a martial weapon (d6) in 1 hand. I know that sounds backwards, but MOST folks I think would attempt to use it two-handed and only those that were really confident with it (such as our skateboarding mongolian) would attempt to use it one-handed (say, with a shield). Maybe just make it a 2H simple weapons that does d6; you can use it 1H as a martial weapon?
