Would substituting the Shield spell (to be cast for one round, once per day) for the Lesser Restoration spell that the Aasimar gets at 3rd level make the race too powerful?
I like how the Aasimar's abilities mirror the Tiefling's abilities. At 3rd level the Tiefling can cast the Hellish Rebuke spell, which gives them, once per day, an offensive ability against an enemy as a reaction in response to being attacked. The Shield spell gives a character a defensive ability as a reaction in response to being attacked. Both are 1st level reaction spells. The symmetry here seems wonderful.
Aasimar are supposed to make good Paladins and Clerics, and these classes should already have a pretty good AC, so I don't see this as being a huge game-changer for these characters. Rather it just gives them a brief but nice little defensive boost. And I like the flavour of the Shield spell being akin to a "holy aura of protection" for the Aasimar.
Again, the Shield spell would only be able to be cast for one round, once a day. Would this be unbalanced at all? To me it seems very comparable to the Tiefling's abilities. But I could be wrong.
I would also limit the Aasimar's Daylight spell to once per day as well. Which mirror's the Tiefling's once per day casting of their Darkness spell.
