I recently purchased the new World of Warcraft RPG and love the way it looks. However, I know that my group has far to many campaigns on the burner to get into a setting that most of them wouldn't care about anyway. So, I am amusing myself with a hypothetical campaign and was wondering if those more familiar with the setting might like to help, or steal ideas as the case may be. Here is the Player Hook: Your teachers are impressed with you. They have chosen you, above all others, to go on a special mission. You are directed to a ruined temple of some long forgotten race on a specific night, to take your gear with you and plan for a long trip. Curious and honored you have made your way there only to find out that something is wrong. The enemy is here. You see allies, or at least potential allies, among those gathered, but an equal number of the hated foe. You are a bit surprised that those gathered have not killed each other on sight, given their histories, and the tension in the clearing is reaching the breaking point. All seem to have been sent here by their respective and respected masters. You begin to wonder if this is all some kind of cruel trap. Suddenly the gathering is bathed in brilliant light. In your midst stands two unexpected but well known figures – Jaina Proudmoore and Warchief Thrall. They explain that you have all been chosen and assembled here for a special mission, to end a threat to both the Alliance and the Horde. A threat that will require cooperation. To this end the leaders have asked for likely young candidates to be assembled, hoping that a lack of personal history with the enemy will allow the group to adapt better where veteran warriors would have immediately begun fighting. So far so good. But, can Alliance and Horde work together again after what happened last time? Exactly what could be such a big threat that your faction needed THEIR help? Whatever it is, it has the leaders shaken, and obviously willing to try a desperate gambit. Since I typically only have 3 players I was thinking about having each one run 2, an Alliance PC and a Horde PC. Potential in character conflict abounds, but I think RPing the tension between duty to the leaders of the factions and the desire to take up old conflicts would be intersting in a group that was immersed in the setting, What's the threat? Well I have some ideas, and maybe they are all tied together. The Scourge is an obvious one, as is the Burning Legion and their remaning worshippers, but something new might be fun. An ancient Titan prophecy of a new threat, maybe the corruption that is taking place in the Emerald Dream, or just two groups of warmongers in both factions that are temporarilly working together to start the Fourth War. Any comments or suggestions?
