Human Fighter Human bonus: Exotic weapon prof. Greatbow (complete warrior) fighter bonus: Weapon focuse greatbow 1st level:point blank shot 2nd level fighter: percise shot 3rd so on... it was about taking all the fighter weapon focus feats and rapid shot and many shot, all of these to get max number of attacks with a higher chance of hitting then a normal 1 weapon user. Also I went kensai with him (3e kensai) which made making his bow into the D&D version of a .50 cal machine gun was easier. Thundering, shocking, keen, flaming, and frost, not to mention +5? it was killer. Say he is 16th level, with a 16th level wizard in the party, the wizard can cast a 10d6 fireball (60 points of damage) while the archer could (with rapid shot) make 4 attacks, say he's 10th level kensai, he is doing 1d10+1d6+1d6+1d6+5+str (mighty composite bows anyone?) So with one shot he is doing max 33 points plus str (his was a 16, so +3, so 36 points) plus pointblank (if within range) He could easily demolish anything with his bow in 1 round, not to mention if he crits with it....it was a force to behold. Now you could say "but he was a kensai, not a fighter" but I could not have got to kensai as anything but fighter (or samurai as it was intended,or monk for that matter) as for the musketeers, they were duelists (DMG 3e) which was turned into the Swashbuckler class (CW 3e) which was a fighter class. To me, the rogue is skills, how he fights is not important, for he does not fight well, he is there to get the party out of situations you cannot hack your way out of (case in point, Gandalf came to Bilbo because he needed a rogue [burglar] to help with his adventure) But you could make someone who wears light armor and fights with a rapier out of a fighter, infact I would prefer it to the actual swashbuckler, all those feats make you totally customizable, if I wanted a tank, id be a paladin or barbarian (or Knight from PHB II 3e) as I mentioned earlier
