Wrath of Ashardalon vs. Legend of Drizzt

I'm planning on getting my son (age 5) one of the D&D coop boardgames for Christmas so that we can play it together when I don't feel like running a real D&D game for him. My plan had been to get Wrath of Ashardalon--I think high fantasy will appeal to him more than horror fantasy and he doesn't have any exposure to Drizzt, Forgotten Realms, etc. (I've played Castle Ravenloft once or twice, so I know what the game play is like--I'm pretty sure any of the games will work with an adult playing with him.)

So here's the question: I'm seeing Legend of Drizzt for like $20 cheaper than Wrath of Ashardalon. That makes me wonder if it would be better to get the cheaper option, even though it's not my top choice. But I'm wondering how well the Drizzt game stands up on its own for people who don't know anything about the books, etc.

The price difference isn't the end of the discussion--we could afford Wrath--but it's enough to make a difference in my thinking. Has anyone played Drizzt who can give me some thoughts on this?
