WWII d20?

Has anyone tried out the WWII d20 rules from the Polyhedron issue that was attached to Dragon mag #97?

They look pretty interesting. Maybe as a one-shot, change of pace type of thing?

The gaming group I'm hoping to join again after a 4 months absence plays (or at least played) a campaign with the "V for Victory" rules, following the "exploits" of a squad of paras from the beginning of the war onwards.

We mixed in some elements of D20 modern and used an extended feat list, but largely followed the V rules, but then we are not very mechanics-oriented. (So we didn't have any problems with V's simpler structure.)

I suggest Weird War II if you want to run a WWII campaign (even w/o the monsters and magic). I just can't remember what company produced it at the moment.

There some terrific stuff in those books. It blends real history with fantasy. It uses the fact that the Nazis DID investigate the occult and then it takes off from there.

Actually, it was Dungeon rather then Dragon. With this nickpick aside, our group ran a basic VFV campaign for a couple months. Then the GM threw some mystical elements, like vampires and zombies, into the game which was great.

There is occasional WW2 talk on the d20 System forum as well as Wizard's d20 Historical forum. The problem with VfV is two-fold. First, its not OGL so you can't really post rules and such. Secondly, for some reason most people who are interested in WW2 gaming pick d20 Modern so VfV's straight d20 rules aren't of much use.

My main compliant with the game is they set the Defense bonus way too high (at +1 per BAB). I like the way they did the classes and the weapons are compatable with d20 CoC.
