And you thought I wsn't coming back Well, I finally got to start my WWII Spycraft game. Today was the second session, and so far the players have had some clever ideas, and some bad luck. Bear with me, this is going to be long and rambling: P The Unit: 1st Lt. Nigel Wellington, British Commando and sharpshooter. (2 soldier) Alyssa Von Sieben (yes, really) Austrian Expatriate Femme Fatale (1 face/1 fixer) Salazar (last name unknown) A Basque communist from Barcelona (1 soldier/1 fixer) Nathan Sothten, Professor of archeology and Spy (1 wheelman/1 fixer) Major. Jonathan Doughe, Upright American soldier with too much starch in his underwear. (2 soldier) Rachna (last name unknown) British intelligence officer from India (2 snoop) Back Ground: The unit has been formed as part of the organization that will later become the OSS (officially formed in 1942). Certain members of what will later been the Allied powers have realized that Germany's actions will ultimately lead to war, and are attempting to slow or derail its growing war machine. 1st Session (last Sunday): The unit (minus Salazar) meets at a Manor house just outside of London. Rachan and Doughe arrive at the same time. Doughe mistakes Rachna for a servant and asks her to carry his luggage... after the ensuing 'conversation' died down; the unit met each other for the first time. They were then introduced to their handler, Geoffrey Thornton, who explained their mission. They were to infiltrate Fascist-controller Barcelona posing as British and American academics arriving to assist in cataloging and packing the contents of the Museu d’Historia de la Ciutat / Placa del Rei (the Barcelona museum of history) for shipment to Germany under the care of SonderKommando H for "safekeeping." Several crates of valuable artifacts had been smuggled from the Museum and hidden somewhere in the city. Unfortunately the Gestapo got wind of it and have clamped down on all traffic in and out of Barcelona. After the briefing, the unit discussed their plan of action. They would be operating totally without outside support once they arrived in Spain, so they would need to be subtle. The unit decided that they would only take pistols, except for Lt. Wellington and Mjr. Doughe, who (via gadget points) purchased a breakdown Mauser rifle hidden in some 'lab equipment' and a false-bottomed steamer trunk to smuggle Mjr. Doughe's Thompson. The unit arrived in Barcelona aboard a passenger freighter, only to find the harbor blockaded by the Mano Sangrienta, a WWI vintage BD-97 Torpedo destroyer flying Fascist colors. The freighter was boarded by a detachment of Fascist soldiers lead by a Gestapo agent. Papers were examined and the berths were searched. The party’s equipment came through unscathed, but another of the passengers attempted to flee and was shot as a smuggler. The party secured a place to stay in a local Hostel and proceeded to the Museum the next morning. There they met with their contact, Joana Miro, the assistant curator and were slipped a note with a time and the address of an apartment in a heavily damaged residential area. The arrive in the early evening and are ushered into a cramped apartment occupied by 5 very fidgety Loyalist soldiers and Henry Williams, a widely known American academic and member of the International Brigade. Williams informed them that the artifacts had been loaded onto a freighter, the La Victoria se Levantó, but could not leave the harbor because of the destroyer. The Fascists would find them eventually, so time was of the essence. Williams provided the party with a small amount of highly unstable gel-based explosive they had obtained from a raid on a German test range. As they discussed courses of action, Mjr. Doughe (who had remained on the street as a look out spotted a half track heading towards them... Unfortunately, we're getting busy here at work, so I'll try and finish up this (very long) tale later tonight. Edit: Argh, back typo daemons!
