Xbox 2 to include standard wireless controllers

I hope they have some sort of beeper built into them, because a lot of times the only way I can find a controller is by following the cord from the Xbox...

What disturbs me is this:
British technology news site The Inquirer reported yesterday that the new console will sport controllers very similar to the current Controller S design, but using wireless rather than wired connections to the console.

While the Controller S was an imporvement over the original pad, it is still a poorly laid out controller in need of an overhaul.

Hmmm. I quite like it myself. I think they need to add 2 sets of buttons to the shoulder, above the triggers, like the PS2 pad has (and maybe trim that part down a bit more, to make it smaller). But other than that, I think it's perfect. It's by far my favorite console controller, except maybe the Saturn Nights controller.

That's pretty wicked news - glad that they're using technology properly (and making it standard). But, it'd better have the rumble function, otherwise thanks but no thanks.

The Controller S is decent (and far superior to the original cheeseburger that they tried to offer), but the black/white button placement is atrocious (and made even worse by the superior Dual Shock's 4-button shoulders). But, it's still the second-best controller out there (and the best for FPS, AFAIC).

In any case, it could have been worse (read: the GCN controller, or the DC's "Ugly Ass Cow Controller"), so I'm not complaining that much.

You mean, make it the Dual Shock? ;)

This is what I was getting at, though I think the Back and Start buttons should be moved as well (where the stupid green X is, would be good).

Not a bad idea.

I don't know much about wireless controllers. Wouldn't this eat through the batteries a lot faster?

I would love to have the PS2 controller design for the xbox. It would make it so much easier to play games feom the SSX series & NBA Street series. It's the best controller for the current age of consoles, for my money. I don't mind the xbox or cube controllers but their designs are flawed for games that require the use of more than 4 buttons...

Yes, it would. How much, though, is the question. The Logitech wireless pads (with rumble) last a decent amount of time, for example.

In any case, if they're going to go wireless as standard, then they'd better make sure the technology is there.
