Err... yeah. Well, unless you've already got some AA rechargeables and a charger, anyway. The original pair of Energizer batteries mine came with lasted through about 80 hours of 'official' gameplay in Lost Odyessey (and maybe another few hours of backtracking after TPKs, and fussing around with free stuff on Xbox Live). Losing power on your controller mid-game is a Bad Thing (at least I didn't have to redo all that much).
