I've used both. I played AD&D 1E for seven years, always calling Experience Points EPs. Sure, we used electrum pieces, but they were never common enough in the games I played to be worth abbreviating. Besides, the word "electrum" is kinda fun to say. I miss electrum pieces. I had seen the term XP around, but never much cared for it. And EXP is more of a video game thing. It's not meant to be SPOKEN, or used in tabletop games; it's an abbreviation that only really works in writing. :p Saying "ecksp" just sounds dumb. I never heard "eeps" until I joined a group just two or three years ago that used that pronunciation. I never much cared for it. But I'd totally sign up for the Peeps for Eeps program. Anyhow, with the dawning of Third Edition, I started saying XP once in a while because it's so common throughout the written material, but it just doesn't feel natural to me -- EPs rolls off the tongue quicker and more smoothly without all that gutteral Xing. So I'll throw my vote behind EP, and even have the cojones to own up to it in the face of all this anti-EP posturing. My modified level check will stand up to your Intimidate check any day. Now I just need a mod to tell me how many EPs this encounter is worth... :D :p
