The masked wizard stands unmoved in the face of the shadowy rift. In fact, he seems stronger than before, as if the necromantic energies sent against him had increased his strength rather than weakening him. Reaching beneath his left sleeve, he touches his still-open wound and brings forth a fresh flow of blood. Chanting, he draws a single scarlet line upon the air, a line that congeals into a scarlet staff. The staff gleams wetly, as if lacquered in blood. As the Bright Necromancer’s woven lightnings lash across the battlefield, Shou Ren gestures with one hand as he holds the staff before him in the other. The lightnings twist uneasily in the air, seeking a path, before they latch onto the end of the staff. Shou Ren continues to gesture, and the web of ebon lightning wraps itself tightly along the staff’s bloody length. Now, the staff throbs and pulses with an unhealthy blend of liquid red and crackling black energies. Speaking a word of power, the masked mage draws back his arm and hurls the staff at his foe like a spear. The staff only flies a few yards before it falls to the ground. But unlike a normal weapon, it disappears into the ground without trace, as a fish parts the waves. A moment later, the staff bursts up from the earth and plunges, not towards the Bright Necromancer, but directly into the heart of the rift. As a wave of scarlet fire passes over the black gateway, it trembles, lashes out with uncontrollable arms of black fire, and starts to collapse. A sudden, blinding whirlwind of dirt and debris springs up around the dwindling ebon portal as it attempts to suck everything around it into the shadow realm. The Bright Necromancer, as has been noted, stands near the portal. The staff slides below the tower; grasps the blood of the pole!
