The masked wizard traces a shadowy rune in the air and gestures towards the collapsing portal. A black wind springs up. It begins as a faint, foul whisper, but grows in seconds into a howling gale of darkness that draws the last of the necromantic energies of the rift across the battlefield towards Shou Ren. Spreading his arms wide as he chants the final words of the spell, he welcomes the darkness into his body and soul. Cloaked with death, armored with shadow, the masked necromancer radiates a palpable vileness that destroys all that it touches. Raising his arms, the mage makes a twisting, spiraling gesture. Darkness flows from his hands. All around, the stones and debris of the battlefield quiver and stir, then leap into the air! The wreckage begins to circle Shou Ren, slowly at first, then faster and faster, to form an all but impenetrable barrier of whirling shards. What rite then transpires cannot be determined, for the masked wizard can no longer be seen nor heard beyond his barricades of shards and shadows. The result of his working, however, soon becomes all too clear when it oozes from the shattered earth near the Bright Necromancer’s feet. The thing is a nightmarish quadruped of wolf-like aspect, nine feet high at the shoulder. Its body is black water, its eyes tongues of red flame. Stone fangs jut from its maw, and its breath is a foul, poisonous wind. Leaping into the air, the wolf-thing descends upon the Bright Necromancer! Even if it fails to mangle him with its jaws or wither him with its breath, surely he will drown in the depths of its foul body… The wolf drowns the ocean; quickly protects against the rising of the lash and perfectly absorbs the touch of the grave!
