Many ages ago, when the world was still young, there was a fighter named Wicht. He lived in peace with his family and was a good man. Fate however was not kind to him. His wife was cruelly murdered and his children were forced into foster homes. He was unlucky in fights and soon was disgraced and penniless. He turned to a life of crime and met with remarkable success. Victory after victory was his and he soon was a chief amongst bandits. The dark powers took notice of him at this point and offered him power. Power which he accepted. He knew no defeat and brought many over to the darkness with him. His was a reign of terror unrivaled before or since. But all things must come to an end and Wicht's streak of luck soon failed him and he entered into a fight in which the forces of goodness arrayed against him, and hiring an assassin they brought him low. And so Wicht died... But his story did not end there, for chief amongst his lieutenants was a demoness, a fallen angel skilled in dark arts and she connived to bring him back to life, or rather we shall say, unlife. He returned as a lich and for a time there was again darkness. But Wicht realized that open warfare would again lead to his destruction and so he surrendered for a time his Staff of Power to another and disappeared. But he was not gone. He hid his lair with dark arts and proceeded to work behind the scenes for evil purposes. Scarcely a war is started, scarcely a monster is sighted, scarcely a famine plagues the land but the ancient masters can sense his presence behind the calamity. The world would be a better place without Wicht in it. It has taken long, but the ancient masters have finally found the identity of his followers and through them have found the place where he rests. His lair is an ancient thing, filled with goblins, orcs, were-wolves and the undead. It is feared he perhaps even has a dragon or two. And who knows how powerful he has grown throughout the eons. But his lair also doubtlessly contains treasure and magic. And certainly there is glory to be found there for the ones who would combat the evil. He has lived long but he can be defeated. And to those brave enough to dare the dangers of his lair the ancient masters will show the way. ******************************************** Wicht's Lair is a permanent YBAdventure setting (permenant until it is completely cleaned out at least) and is open to any who want a go at it. Those who do decide to adventure there should be aware of the following. 1) Each adventure in Wicht's lair shall take place in a separate thread from this one. Use this thread to post your desire to venture there and to let me know who all is in each party. I will try to run as many as 3 parties at one time, but that number is of course subject to change due to any complications in my real life schedule. 2) Parties of 2 are encouraged for ease of play, but 1-4 people can be in any given party. 3) Wichts Lair is arranged in 11 levels of increasing difficulty. But adventurers should be aware that any given level may have a wide range of challenges. The first level of the dungeon for instance, a cemetery, has monsters ranging from CR 1 to CR 20 in it. Be aware! 4) Wichts Lair is going to use a new optional rule called "Run-Away." If at any time a character thinks they have met a challenge they can not handle, they may opt to run away. A character who runs away must post one last move and are then subject to one last attack from their attackers. This last move may not be a chair shot, but it can involve a shove or dirty trick. As long as their attackers do not kill them in that round, the PC has successfully run away and has snuck out of the lair. To venture back into the lair will require a new thread. 5) Monsters in the lair may move around at times. Rooms that have been emptied may later be filled again at the whim of the lair's creator. 6) Wicht's Lair incorporates one other minor rule change. Just as PCs do not automatically die when they lose a fight, so too, some important characters in the lair, including Wicht himself, must be killed in the same manner as a PC, by losing a fight in which they lost more than 1 hit from a single attack. This will especially be true of monsters that carry magical equipment. That is all I think. Good luck to those that venture within the Lich's Lair!!!
