Well, my (12yo) son enjoys watching the show, but has basically given away his cards to his friends. Some of it is simply a giving spirit/pleaser attitude he has, some of it was that some of his best cards were lost/stolen, and some of it seems to be that he doesn't craze over getting the special/rare/valuable cards like the companies might hope he would. The times I saw him give away a WOWZA-type card for 3-5 really mediocre or downright bad cards, and his "friends" would really take advantage. I figured eventually he would catch on and "learn his lesson", but he never seemed to wake up on the quality/diversity over quantity/repetition factor. Did the same thing with Pokemon. *shrugs* My daughter used to enjoy playing the game with him, but as she is now 15 (!) she has turned to more "normal" teenager-girl things (the horror!) There have been plenty of times that I'll be reading something in the same room while my son's watching. I can't help but roll my eyes at the incredible number of times that the scenario comes up where "I must pull this ONE card out of my deck now or the whole match is lost" and lo and behold what do they draw!?!?! Amazing!!! Or the frequent statements that seem to go "oh, but have you forgotten about the extra special ability that kicks with MY card simply because you are using THOSE (type of) cards"? Well, let me bring in the wife to give her credit. She has taken an interest in it primarily to keep the line of communications open with our son. Me and him, we've got computer games, beginning RPG interest, and fantasy novels to connect on. But SHAKES over the series? Wow.
