Most backgrounds mention that your character has some sort of experience.  You're a soldier.  You saved your village.  You've had schooling.You aren't a fresh daisy.The PC's are special.I also like that most NPC's never get about 10.  And 10 is like head of the church of the god you follow.  Or the master of the wizards school.   11+ is for the truly exceptional.  There may be a handful 20th level Wizard or Fighter or whatever out there in the whole world.By the by, I've always liked the idea that a god has just one paladin running around at any given time.  Like Buffy.</blockquote>
