Well, the PCs survived. The fighter was down at -7, but they prevailed. The PCs managed to ally with the kobolds (10 silvers each and "directions to the girls" was good enough). They waited until the dragon left completely, having decided they really didn't want to face him. Only the dragon had figured out they suborned the kobolds and was waiting for them. They went up the stairs and the dragon tried to ambush them. Fortunately for them a good rogue listen check alerted them to the dragon's presence just in time. Most of the party won initiative and managed to get off the stairs. But the druid, her companion and the kobolds got fried. Both kobolds went down. The wizard used a scroll he'd found earlier (ice storm) to very good effect from the bottom of the stairs and did a nice bit of damage. The rogue spent a round putting oil of bless weapon on his rapier, and the druid cast protection from elements on herself and her wolf, which was barely standing. The foolish dragon charged the fighter (down the stairs) and chomped him a good one. The wizard then began magic missiling the dragon. The fighter landed a good solid strike, and so did the rogue. The druid cast magic fang on the wolf. The dragon breathed a second time, taking the fighter down. The wizard took just a bit of damage, and the wolf was down to 2 hp. The rogue was out of the blast cone. There was one more round of chomp-and-slash, and they took down the dragon in 4 rounds! Afterwards, the PCs even healed up the kobolds, which I thought was pretty generous!
