Yeh! A western thread! Anything by John Ford. Even his later weaker stuff is pretty good. But with John Wayne its probably some of the greatest stuff on film. And for people who may not like the Duke his John Ford stuff is worth seeing. My favorites: Stagecoach- almost the Ur-Western "The Calvary Trilogy": Ft Apache (not on DVD for some reason) Rio Grande She Wore A Yellow Ribbon My Darling Clementine- A retelling of the fight at the OK Corral and the Wyatt Earp myth, nearly devoid of historical fact. But has a great Henry Fonda performance. Non John Ford- Shane. If you can see just one western this should be it. Rio Bravo-John Wayne, Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson. Sounds odd, but maybe the last classic 50's western. Unforgiven Lonesome Dove. Not a cinematic release but a mini series now out on DVD. Robert Duvall is great in this one.
