Message: <blockquote data-quote="BlackMoria" data-source="post: 316761" data-attributes="member: 424">I fondly remember the campaign in which my 6th or 7th level cleric of Heironeous (it was a long time ago, so a little foggy on my level) was the sole survivor and fought nearly impossible odds to escape.It was the original Temple of Elemental Evil and our party made a big time mistake, resulting in our party getting cornered by the combined forces of the Earth, Fire, Water, and Air temples.In the battle, all the other party members died, leaving me in a dead end room battling in the door so that I wouldn't get flanked.It was so long ago, I don't remember the number of foes, but it seemed like a sea of them.The DM didn't want to play it out and said I was dead.  I disagreed - so we played it out.   The enemy still had about a dozen low level cannonfodder (1st level types) and about 6 clerics of a variety of levels.I managed to escape, after cutting down the low level types, and forcing the 4 surviving clerics to withdraw after killing 2 clerics.  Then a running battle through two levels of the Temple as reinforcements tried to bring me to bay.  Ended up killing another 6-8 low level types along the way.Afterwards, the DM informed me that I had make no less than 17 saving throws against a variety of cleric spells and that it would have been game over if I had failed even one.  Everyone also thought it incredible that I survived and escaped.  What can I say.... it was a night in which I was a dice rolling god and it worked out for me.  Many people in that campaign remember that that singular event the most and for a long time afterwards.</blockquote>
