In many ways this has been, on the surface, a terrible year for me -- marginal employment, having to sleep on a couch at my sister's house as I am unable to afford an apartment, bouts of bad health, etc. Due to this, however, I have found some truly amazing things in my life. Amazement the First: I have truly amazing friends. They have helped me in ways that I shall never be able to truly repay. For this, I give my very humble thanks. Amazement the Second: Being Best Man at my friend's wedding. There is nothing like standing up there and knowing, knowing that these are the right people getting married. And the axe felt good in my hands. ;) Amazement the Third: Due to tightening my belt I am able to quite literally tighten my belt. I lost almost 35 pounds this year (well, from October 2004 to December 2005) and am finally at a healthy weight. Of course my clothes are pretty baggy now, but I can do something about that. ;) Amazement the Fourth: I found I can get through some truly stressful times and still find joy and humour. Much of this is due to Amazement the First... :) So this next year is going to be such an improvement (monetarily and living condition-wise), that I shall be in a position to show thanks to many, probably through some good meals, a few well-placed museum trips, and sharing new poems. For such a terrible year, it has been pretty darn good :)
