So I used an adventure at lvl 11 that features a sewer. I placed it under Baldurs Gate. Typical D&D its comparatively huge. 20' mostly with wider areas. From BG3 I put Bhaalists in the sewers. The lair was a repurposed vampire lairs. Blood fountains became tweaked to suit Bhaals cult. The sewer water can poison you along with the gas/smell. The gas also has a 15% chance of igniting if fire is used. Bhaalists lean heavily on murder aura and poison. I'm using cultists to represent his clerics. I'm running the dungeon mostly as is tweaking a few encounters. Eg vampires become Bhaalists. So one of the encounters was a mutated adult black dragon with its wings chopped off. And chained up with a very long chain. Its lair was a 20' platform in the river of sewage and it was 10'. At CR 13 vs 5 level 11s in a slugfestvit would last 1-2 rounds. I decided to have it swin and sewage river was 20' deep. The players however had cast heroes feast. Negates poison condition, frightened condition, resistance to poison, buffs HP. Celestial Warlock also casts aid. Basic idea I had was use mobility to use its breath weapon, wait for it to recharge wash rinse repeat. Party contains a Tortle Monk. New Monks can walk on water and up walls. Monks gave a swim speed. And its immune to poison condition. Under water you have disadvantage to hit unless you have a swim speed or use piercing weapons..... So my glorious plan was essentially hard countered by my players. Dragon attacked the bard who was by herself on a boat, everyone else teleorted it flew to the 20' platform. Mirror image ngated all of the attacks. By round 2 the dragon was all out of legendary resistance. I negated a stun from the Monk, a hold monster spell, command:halt and something else. Monk also knocked it prone (while underwater RAW it works). Dragon died with a whimper. Anyway any ideas on some interesting fights. Basic plan going in was ambush and hit and run. Upcoming encounters. Glabrezu+mooks. Bhaalists (Descent into Avernus, assassins, cultists, death head assassins DM specials). They've defeated a dragon, 2 groups of bhaslists, 1 group of Myrkul cultists, and Nalfeshnee with cultists. 5 encounters so far. Buffs Heroes Feast+aid True sight on Warlock (due to expire). Party composition Lvl 11 Light cleric Celestial bladelock Fighter1/monk 10 Dragon Sorcerer (lightning) Glamour Bard I think some of them are running liw on spells. They have some gas left in the tank but Bards put of 5th level spells, clerics used a 5th and 6th level spell, Warlocks used mystic arcanum 6th (true sight). Heyre missing sone 4th level ones as well. Warlock and monk are short rest though. They're on the clock as well. Long rest means they fail and level 12 is a lot harder and BBEG may change (Bhaals avatar escapes and it's buffed and the miss out on a legendary weapon). Campaign will end at 12. BBEG is Bhaal if his avatar survives, the deciever if he doesn't. The deceiver will be tied back to level 1-3. I've foreshadowed the deceivers existence but haven't pushed it to hard so theyre unaware for the most part.
