That was my idea of a warlord template that could be used in 5E. A sticking point for me with some posters is the insistence of being able to grant at will attacks which I think would be broken in 5E due to the Rogue if nothing else let alone things like barbarians+GWF, sharpshooter feat etc.

My new idea would be to use something similar to my template and cherry pick the existing warlord type abilities (superiority dice, bard dice, mastermind and PDK abilities) and get them all in one place. Not all warlords would have them of course. Inspiration warlord might get bard dice while the tactical one gets superiority dice, bravura one gets an extra attack etc. Or at least you get the option of choosing those abilities.

The various warlordy type powers get turned into things similar to the warlock invocations but are more martial themed. Some of these can mimic parts of the feats or are based off 4E powers. At will granting extra atacks are a bit nuts but an ability that grants some extra superiority dice might be OK or a daily effect that restores your superiority dice without a short rest.

I suggest you try a full attack with 1/2 damage.

Even with a rogue or sharpshooter, it's on par with a firebolt. Maybe firebolt + mod if you optimize.

Try it out, see how it works. Make it a war cleric cantrip or something.
