Ziggurat Con - the most important con you won't attend this year.

My wife is an Army contractor and sent me the above link. Folks, regardless of any political opinions of the war I think this could be a great opportunity to show some support for the men and women caught up in it. From the article:

"This convention is currently in drastic need of prizes and giveaways for the troops," he said. "Everything donated will go directly to the troops, or to MWR to use as loaner books for the soldiers."

So please read, consider, and if you will, donate. Myself, I'm sending some D&D books along with some dice.

I'd like to point out a cool thing we could do to make Ziggurat Con a success:
On Amazon.com, the D&D Player's Kit is only $19.77, that includes a softcover Player's Handbook, a set of dice, a booster pack of minis, a solo adventure, quick start guide, a character sheet, and a character creation guide. (If you purchase just $5.23 worth of more stuff and shipping to you is free).

The kit weighs 3.2 pounds. Add in .8 pounds assume packaging and the minis, it would cost about $5.60 to to ship to:

SPC David Amberson
A Co 86th Sig Bn
APO, AE 09331

from my zipcode.

That's a little over $25.00 total to help make the Con a success. Imagine multiple Player's Kits going into the hands of GIs.

Having been previously informed that all of the DMs participating in the convention will be using laptops, I have set them up with copies of the CMG SRD 3.5 Revised Bundle. Hopefully, all of the attendees of Ziggurat Con and their comrades in arms will finish their tours of duty in safety.

This is amazing, and as a soldier myself who has been deployed in the past, I can tell you personally that this is an outstanding idea to support. I can speak from experience that RPGs are a great source of enjoyment, a good way to pass time and a amazing moral booster while deployed. Some of my best memories of gaming were from when I was deployed.

I personally will be sending SPC Amberson a package this coming week and I am trying to organize some of the groups I know and am involved with to support this convention as well. I ask that everyone that can, send a donation, a game, or you could also purchase gift cards via the Army Air Force Exchange. I am sure these could be used to purchase drinks, snacks, etc that could be given away during the convention to help soldiers, see the Military Exchange Gift Card Service for more info. If nothing else, send an email and let them know that you support their convention and hope it is a great success.

You have no idea how much communication from home means to our guys in the sand. Even if you do not support the war, surely you support other gamers, so please help out if you can!

Thanks for the support for the troops, all. My wife and I purchased some goodies at a local con yesterday to send along; magic boosters, dice, etc. I also found a vendor with a shrinkwrapped copy of CHAINMAIL that I'm going to FedEx to Gary along with some spare DUNGEON MASTERS GUIDEs I have for him to autograph and send out.

I'm sending some indie RPGs out to Flames Rising later this week. I'll drop some copies of Hero's Banner in the mail for the troops while I'm at it.

Just wanted to say thanks

I am trying to post everywhere I am hearing/reading about this. You see, I am actually at Tallil right now, and am HOPING to be able to attend (cannot quite guarantee time off out here). As such, I just want to say thank you to everyone sending stuff. Even if I can't attend, it will mean alot to those who can. I will do my best to post pictures of the even as many places as I can (again, provided I can go). Though I am not organizing the event, I would also be more than happy to help link people up with the organizer(s) (especially since I believe Anderson is passing on the reigns due to impending departure from the country).

Any questions or comments, feel free to email me @ RisnDevil@yahoo.com

Again, thanks for everything you are all doing for us,
RisnDevil
